One More for the King
It's too quiet tonight
And everyone's gone
And, considering everything
Nothing is wrong
But I'm sweeping up ashes
And it's not so nice
The TV's my company
And I turned it off twice
And turned it back on a third time
And stood and I stared with my broom in low light
I turned up the volume so that I could tell
What the king had to say
On hotel stationery
On a night such as this
That felt like it would never come to day
Now I don't pretend
That I comprehend
The fate of a garden
That I did not tend
The forests are burning,
And I in my room,
The towers are churning
Toward some kind of doom
And all I can do is think of his song
So weary that hope speaks through all that is wrong
I wish someone were here so that i could tell
What the king had to say
Someone needs to hear it
On a night such as this
That feels like it'd never come to day
It's too quiet tonight
And everyone's gone
And I think I hear his majesty
Singing the same song
And I can't cry to my mom
Or make love to my man
There's no one to tell something
They won't understand anyway
That it feels like a lonesome Las Vegas hotel
And what the king had to say
It was something about stars
And a night such as this
That just might fade into one more day
